Fit For Purpose Fitness Education
Research demonstrates substantial evidence that exercise is an effective treatment for people with mental health problems, improving social and emotional well-being. This seminar will provide level 2 instructors and level 3 advanced instructors with an introduction to the exercise implications for individuals with mental health problems. Instructors can assist and gain experience in supporting appropriately qualified health care professionals and exercise referral instructors in the mental health sector and help individuals along their journey to behaviour change.
Objectives
The seminar will cover areas including;
• Introduction to different mental health conditions
• Benefits of exercise for individual with mental health problems
• Common barriers to exercise and how to overcome them
• Exercise considerations to promote adherence, achievement and enjoyment
Assessments
There is no formal assessment
Entry Requirements
To qualify for REPs CPD points, attendees should possess a minimum of a:
• Level 2 Gym Instructor or Exercise to Music and;
• A valid REPs membership
This course is open to those not meeting the entry requirements - fitness enthusiasts, health care workers and instructors not on the Register of Exercise Professionals, but will not be able to claim the CPD points.

Lecture-style delivery over 4 hours

• Active IQ Certificate in Advanced Instructing
• Active IQ Certificate in Personal Training
• Active IQ Certificate in Exercise Referral
Candidates must go on to complete the Level 3 Certificate in Exercise Referral in order to work with individuals with low risk medical conditions as part of an Exercise Referral Scheme.
Candidates must go on to complete a full specific vocational qualification on Exercise and Mental Health in order to practice and to gain the appropriate indemnity insurance to work with individuals with mental health problems without direct supervision.
