Upon suscessful completion of this qualification you will be able to work in an unsupervised capacity, covering the considerations for safe and effective exercise as well as how to plan and adapt exercise programmes for pregnant and postnatal clients. You will gain an understanding of the underpinning biomechanical, physiological and anatomical changes that occur during and after pregnancy to enable you to design safe and effective exercise to pregnant and postnatal clients.

What topics are covered during the course?


COURSE AIMS To develop an understanding of the underpinning biomechanical, physiological and anatomical changes that occur during and after pregnancy to enable learners to prescribe safe and effective exercise to antenatal and postnatal clients. To develop knowledge of the necessary and advised nutritional changes for ensuring well-being during and after pregnancy. To assess your knowledge and skills in planning and adapting exercise for ante natal and post natal clients. To enable you to analyse information in order to plan exercise programmes for both ante natal and post natal clients. COURSE TOPICS The trimesters. Anatomical, physiological and biomechanical changes that occur during antenatal and postnatal periods, along with their implications for exercise. Benefits and contraindications to exercise for antenatal and postnatal client. Barriers to exercise. Warning signs. Nutritional requirements for antenatal and postnatal period. Supporting antenatal and postnatal clients in exercise. Screening antenatal and postnatal clients and managing risks in sessions. Prenatal exercise prescription - principles, warm up and cool down, aerobic exercise, resistance exercise, flexibility, considerations for exercise across each trimester. Postnatal exercise prescription - benefits of exercise, postnatal concerns.
