Level 3 Education and Training

This level 3 qualification, awarded by YMCA Awards will equip you with the knowledge and skills to deliver and facilitate inclusive teaching and learning.

The course is suitable for those who are not currently teaching but who are able to get some teaching experience, and for those who are currently teaching but do not hold a recognised teaching qualification.

You will be able to; Understand the teaching role and responsibilities in education and training, Understand ways to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment, Understand the relationships between teachers and other professionals in education and training, Understand the types and methods of assessment used in education and training, Understand how to use constructive feedback, keep records and involve learners and others in the assessment process, Understand quality assurance and the legal and good practice requirements in relation to assessment, Be able to plan, deliver and evaluate inclusive teaching and learning.

What are the course units and how are each assessed?

MANDATORY UNIT Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training - assessed via a worksheet. Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training - assessed via a written worksheet and micro-teaching session (via video submission) Understanding the principles and practices of assessment - assessed via completion of a written worksheet.

What is the entry requirement for this course?

Good communication, IT and written skills, a keen interest in your subject area and passion for moving into a teaching role.

Study Method

You will study this qualification via distance learning with support from a 1-2-1 tutor. 

All written coursework can be completed from home.

You will also be required to deliver a "micro-teaching session" on a subject of your choice to at least 2 people. You will need to therefore make arrangements for this during your course. Please contact us if you have any questions about this.

What course materials will I receive?

In order to learn the content of this course to enable you to complete the assessments, you will be provided with a Principles and Practices of Teaching and Training text book and all assessment paperwork online.

You will be assessed via completion of written worksheets and a micro-teaching session.

For the micro-teaching session, you will produce a lesson plan and the deliver your 15 minutes session to at least 2 people.

You will then be required to be involved in a further 45 minutes of micro-teaching. This can be you observing others or delivering further sessions yourself.

All micro-teaching sessions must be filmed and sent in to us via video link for assessment.
