YMCA Awards Level 4 Weight Management for Individuals with Obesity, Diabetes Mellitus and/or Metabolic Syndrome. This course is for those who wish to be able to plan and deliver safe and effective weight management programmes to members of the population with obesity, diabetes mellitus and/or metabolic syndrome.

Course Information

During the course, you will cover;

  • Collecting client information and agreeing a set of goals

  • Design, review and adapt weight-management programmes

  • How to encourage long-term behaviour change

  • How obesity, diabetes and metabolic syndrome are linked with social issues, associated disease risk, disease states and available treatments

  • Impact of physical activity, how to manage risks, the important of building relationships with key individuals and how to help individuals to manage their weight

  • Deliver motivational weight management sessions for groups and individuals including 1-2-1 weigh ins, topical group discussions and physical activity.

Entry Requirement: A recognised Level 3 Exercise Referral qualification is required plus 150 hours of relevant professional practice at Level 3 in designing, delivering and monitoring, adapting and tailoring exercise programmes for individuals gained within the previous 2 years and at least 6 months experience since qualification (to be evidenced in a CV).

MODULES

  • Programming group weight management for individuals with obesity, diabetes and metabolic syndrome - assessed via a worksheet, 121 client consultation, 12-week weight management programme for a small group to include nutritional advice and behaviour modification strategies, physical activity plan and programme review.

  • Considerations for safe and effective weight management programmes for individuals with obesity, diabetes and metabolic syndrome - assessed via a worksheet and theory exam

  • Delivering group weight management sessions for individuals with obesity, diabetes and metabolic syndrome - assessed via a worksheet, delivering of a weight management session to a small group to include 121 weigh-in and discussion, group topical discussion, instruction of physical activity, and feedback.

What course materials will I receive?

  • Level 4 Obesity and Diabetes course manual,

  • Assessment paperwork for all units,

  • Access to a personal tutor for ongoing course support as well as access to our student Facebook Study Support group.

Written assessments include worksheet questions, assignments, a client consultation, programme design, review and self-evaluation.

 

Assessments can be completed remotely or at one of our approved assessment centres in the Midlands or South East.
