Course Induction

You are now successfully enrolled on the YMCA Awards Level 3 Sports Massage Therapy course, which includes 6 attendance dates.

This is a blended learning course, so includes elements of home study and attendance to one of our practical workshops, which you selected when booking on the course. Attendance on all 6 workshop dates is essential to complete this qualification so if you miss a date you will need to transfer to the next course. Please let us know as soon as possible and at least 4 weeks prior to the first day, if the dates you originally booked are not suitable. Refer to our booking terms on alternations and transfers for details (point 5.4-5.6).

The workshop dates will run between 9.30am and 2.30pm on each day with a 30-45 minute break around midday. 

 

You have up to 12 months to complete the course. Please see our policy on Course Timeframes for further information.

  • Anatomy and physiology for sports massage

  • Principles of health and fitness

  • Professional practice in sports massage

  • The principles of soft tissue dysfunction

  • Fundamental of sports massage treatments

  • Assessment and screening of clients for sports massage treatments

  • Formulation of massage strategies in accordance with clients requirements and expectations

  • Application of fundamental sports massage techniques

  • Evaluation of sports massage treatments

Assessment Guidance

Assessment 1

This assessment is the Y-Mark Level 3 anatomy & physiology for sports massage online assessment workbook. You can complete this at anytime during your course. Here is the link to access this online workbook - https://elearning.ymcaawards.co.uk/. There are 7 sections altogether and you need to score 100% on each workbook, but you do get unlimited attempts and you can use your course materials to help you. Please let your assessor know, once you have completed them so your results can be recorded.

Assessment 2

This is your Anatomy & Physiology multiple choice theory exam. You have the opportunity to complete this exam on the last attendance date, but your revision can start straight away using your course materials and additional resources below. This exam will only assess you on the following topics:

  • Structure of the human body

  • Structure and function of the skin

  • Nervous system

  • Endocrine system

  • Cardiovascular system

  • Respiratory system

  • Lymphatic system

  • Digestive system

  • Urinary system

  • The effects of sports massage on body systems

Assessment 3, 5, 7 and 8

These assessments are the worksheet questions which you can find in your Learner Assessment Record (LAR). These will be set for homework during your course dates, but you are welcome to complete them beforehand. Please use your course manuals plus any additional research/reading to complete these worksheets. Please submit your LAR once these worksheets are complete.

Assessment 4, 6 and 9

This assessment is the Combined Unit Theory Exam. It will test your knowledge from the following chapters in your YMCA Awards Sports Massage manual - Chapter 1, 2 and 4. You will have the opportunity to complete this exam on the last attendance day on the course, but your revision can start straight away.

Assessment 10

This assessment involves x3 practical observations of which will be completed during your course dates. There is nothing you need to do beforehand to prepare for these assessments.
