By the end of the course, you will be able to plan and adapt a safe and effective exercise programme for a disabled client.
Course Content:

The principles of exercise for disabled people;

Programming and supervising exercise for disabled people;

Know the scope of the responsibility of the instructor in the context of disability;

Understand the legal and ethical issues surrounding disability ;

Know the implications of conditions and impairments when working with disabled clients;
-
How to instruct and evaluate an exercise session with a disabled client.
A disabled person in the context of this course is best considered to be anybody for whom there are factors causing a loss of function and who experiences barriers to exercise as a result. The barriers include;

Physical Impairment (Amputation/Limbless, Spinal Cord Injury)

Blindness and Visual Impairment

Learning Disability (Cerebral Palsy, Down's Syndrome, Autistic Spectrum Disorder including Asperger's Syndrome)

ENTRY REQUIREMENT - A recognised Level 2 Gym/ Exercise to Music/ Aqua
UNITS
Unit 1 - Principles Of Exercise For Disabled Clients - assessed via worksheet questions
Unit 2 - Planing And Adapting Exercise For Disabled Clients - assessed via worksheet questions, progressive programme and filmed viva (oral assessment)*
* A disabled case study client must be established in order to complete the progressive programme and viva assessment. They must have an impairment which affects their communication, concentration OR movement/balance.
