Diploma in Gym Instructing & Personal Training (Practitioner)
The YMCA Awards Level 2 Gym Instructor and Level 3 Personal Trainer (Practitioner) combines the Gym Instructor and Personal Trainer courses into one qualification. This course will equip you with all of the skills and qualifications to establish yourself as a Personal Trainer.
Check out this Personal Trainer qualification if you already have a Level 2 Gym qualification.
Our flexible courses can be started upon enrolment, so you can get started straight away! This qualification also awards 10 CIMSPA points and 20 REPs points.
Study & Assessment Options
This qualification is offered as an ONLINE or LIVE course, which you can start studying straight away.
The ONLINE course includes online elearning for all units plus attendance and/or video submission for assessments. We have plenty of assessment dates available each month for our online students at our Midlands venue. It is possible to sit your exams in your workplace should you not be able to attend one of our assessment centres.
The LIVE course includes some online elearning and attendance to course dates.
The LIVE dates for the Gym units involve 6 tutor-taught attendance dates which includes the opportunity to complete all assessments. These attendance dates cover content from units 4 and 5:
Gym-based programme planning and preparation; and
Gym-based programme delivery and professional instruction.
The LIVE dates for the Personal Trainer units include 8 tutor-taught workshops to supplement the online learning. These workshops cover content from units 2, 3 and 4:
Promoting Wellness Through Client Motivation and Interaction;
Bespoke Exercise Programme Design, and;
Customised Exercise Programme Instruction and Communication Techniques.
All students have up to 12 months to complete and pass all assessments in order to achieve the qualification.

Ability to sit theory exams on a date to suit you using our book an assessment form (updated every month) or complete in your workplace if you are unable to attend one of our assessment centres,

YOU MUST HAVE ACCESS TO A FITNESS FACILITY THROUGHOUT YOUR COURSE - check what equipment is required.
At least 3 cardiovascular machines, for example a treadmill, bike (upright/recumbent), crosstrainer and rower.
A range of resistance machines, for example, a leg press, chest press, shoulder press, leg extension, leg curl, seated row, lat pull down.
Free weights - dumbells and barbell
Some functional equipment (at least one) e.g. medicine balls, power bands, resistance bands, VIPRs, kettlebells, battle ropes, slam balls, TRX, BOSU, stability discs etc.
